SEA THE CHANGE

Reimagining the US Seafood Import Monitoring Program

Join the Stimson Centre for the third and final installment of the “Reimagining SIMP” workshop series, cohosted with FishWise, to discuss what changes could improve the U.S. Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP), and how to implement those new ideas.

DATE: 30 July 2024
TIME: 19:00 - 20:30
VENUE:  Digital
FORMAT: Webinar
COST: Free

FEATURED SPEAKERS:

* Sally Yozell: Director, Environmental Security Program, Stimson Centre
* Sara Lewis, Director of Programs, FishWise

The “Reimagining SIMP” workshops in February and May brought together over 75 stakeholders from the US government, the fishing industry, customs brokers, environmental and labour NGOs, and traceability technology providers to have an open and honest conversation about SIMP. The first workshop explored what a successful traceability-based import control program for seafood could look like and the second workshop explored how to optimize an improved and expanded SIMP. With a comprehensive summary of the discussion and key ideas raised during these two workshops, we ask, “what now?”
