SOUTH AFRICA: The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) has issued a statement in relation to the fatal incident onboard the Umkhuseli, confirming that a preliminary enquiry is underway.

SEYCHELLES: Two crewmembers are still missing after an incident on Wednesday involving the Seychelles Coast Guard vessel, Andromache, which had been deployed to tow a vessel out for scuttling during a routine operation.

More than 90 seafarers are now being held captive after the most recent hijacking of the Seamull last week – more than doubling the number quoted by the International Maritime Organization last month.

SOUTH AFRICA: The fishing industry has until 7 August to submit comments on a document outlining the Department of Transport’s (DoT) plan to produce a Fishing Vessel Safety Strategy.
