Locally built boats for inland waters

NIWA collaborates with indigenous boat company

NIGERIA: The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) believes that a decision to collaborate with an indigenous boat manufacturing company for the production of fibre and aluminium boats will help curb the rising number of boat incidents on the country’s inland waters.

The Managing Director of NIWA Bola Oyebamiji FCIB held a discussion with the chief executives of the Indigenous boat manufacturing company recently to deliberate on how to progress the proposed project.

Yemi Aluko the Managing Director of the company said their boats are suited for use in both shallow and deep waters.

The visit comes after the Oyebamiji visited the visited OCEA shipyard in London last year as part of NIWA’s decision to phase out wooden boats in the country.
