Offshore data licensing agreement signed

Promoting offshore opportunities

COMOROS: The Island State of Comoros has hailed its intention to explore its offshore opportunities with the announcement of an agreement to grant TGS the rights to market and license geophysical data covering the Comoros’s offshore basins.

The ComorosSPAN survey lies outboard of the deepwater Rovuma Basin, a major world-class emerging petroleum province. This data allows mapping of tectonic elements reflecting the deformation that has occurred along the East African margin as a result of offset along the Davie Fracture Zone throughout the Lower Cretaceous. It allows mapping of reservoir sands and modelling work to reduce the risk around source potential.

This agreement reinforces TGS’ commitment to supporting the development of the Comoros’s energy sector. TGS’ comprehensive regional data library enables energy companies to evaluate exploration potential across the country’s offshore areas.

TGS’ available datasets are critical for companies assessing investment opportunities across the numerous available offshore blocks.  The agreement was signed with the Gouvernement de L’Union des Comores and the Bureau Géologique des Comores.

Through the agreement, TGS will offer, exclusively, over 10,000-line kilometres of modern SPAN 2D seismic data, providing essential insight into the geological framework and prospectivity of the region.

David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President of Multi-Client at TGS commented, “This agreement deepens our partnership with the Union of the Comoros and the Bureau Géologique des Comores, giving explorers the modern seismic insight they need to evaluate this frontier with confidence.”
