Suez seeks cooperation with SADC

Suez Canal Authority engages with delegation from Southern African Development Community

EGYPT: Ten African States representing the Southern African Development Community (SADC) met with leadership of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) earlier this month to discuss ways of joint cooperation and exchanging expertise in various fields of development.

The delegation, which met with Adm Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of SCA, consisted of ambassadors of 10 African states including Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Congo, Angola, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Mozambique and Tanzania.

The visit's aim is getting a closer look at development opportunities in the Canal projects as well as pioneering experiences in the fields of training, developing fish resources, building marine units, maritime services. Adm.  

“The Suez Canal has a unique developmental experience in the Canal cities and extensive expertise within Egypt and outside it,” noted Rabiee.

The SCA is looking for potential points of cooperation in an effort to leverage on its experience of working with Namibia, Libya and Zambia.

SCA participated in the development and reopening of the Libyan Port of Sirte after 14 years of closure and has entered into an agreement with the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) to cooperate in the fields of port modelling and technical training.

After that, the delegation headed to the Suez Canal Aquaculture Company to tour the packing and packaging factory as well as the fish and shrimp farming ponds.
