INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MARINE BIOINVASIONS

Conference

The International Conference on Marine Bioinvasions (ICMB) is an international forum where scientists and policy makers from around the world meet to review current challenges in the global management of invasive marine organisms and to share new developments in science and policy.

DATE: 05 - 07 October 2026
VENUE:  Cape Town, South Africa
FORMAT: Conference

Biological invasions – the movement of plants and animals outside their natural range by humans – represent one of the most pervasive global threats to marine ecosystems. Increasing trade, transport and tourism, have greatly expanded the numbers of marine organisms that are moved around the world and the locations to which they are spread.

The ICMB is convened every two years. It operates on a not-for-profit basis under the aegis of the Society for the Study of Marine Bioinvasions, Inc. The purpose of the Society, by holding the conferences, is to facilitate the exchange of ideas and research results among scientists and policy makers from around the world about marine invasive species.

These exchanges are intended to inform scientists and policy makers about the patterns of invasions, their effects, and how to reduce or control them.

Conference organization and administration are managed by voluntary members of the Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) of the Society for the Study of Marine Bioinvasions (SSMB) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) which is formed by the next conference host.
