Asset sales will move training forward

CPUT Survival Centre auctions off marine assets

SOUTH AFRICA: CPUT Survival Centre is currently auctioning off a number of assets including four vessels of various sizes as well as an enclosed liferaft.

According to Samantha Montes, Senior Maritime Instructor and Manager at the Survival Centre, the proceeds of the sale of these assets will be used to fund upgrades and replacements to existing equipment including the HUET dunker, rescue boats and launch facilities for lifeboats.

“As a training centre that aims to stay abreast with the practical needs of the industry, we are looking at specific accreditations and equipment renewal to ensure that students undertaking courses on site are well prepared for the maritime environment,” she says.

“Replacements will be sourced via university procurement procedures,” she adds,

In addition to the maintenance required on some of the existing equipment, the centre is also investigating the use of available simulators for survival training.

“If local agencies are not able to provide the required technology, we will have to look at importing equipment.
