SOUTH AFRICA: The country reached a new milestone in the development of the new LNG terminal in Richards Bay that aims to position the port as a key entry point for imported LNG and support the South Africa’s transition toward a diversified energy mix.

CAMEROON: Cameroon has launched a broad crackdown on fraudulent use of its national flag, striking 39 vessels from its ship registry and identifying a further 16 as flying the Cameroonian flag without any legal right to do so. Two websites fraudulently assigning Cameroonian registration to vessels have also been exposed and referred to national and international authorities for deactivation.

CABO VERDE: The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) initiated a needs assessment in Cabo Verde to support the future implementation of a Maritime Single Window (MSW) system in the Port of Mindelo. 

SOUTH AFRICA: Commemorating World Oceans Day, Deputy Minister, Narend Singh launched two commissioned studies addressing the health of the country’s oceans and rivers.

SOUTH AFRICA: South African National Parks (SANParks) is giving the public until 3 July 2026 to comment on its draft management plan for the West Coast National Park Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), Islands and Langebaan estuarine lagoon, covering the period 2027 to 2031.

SOUTH AFRICA: The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), through the Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB), seized approximately 90 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of R36 million at the Port of Durban this weekend. 

CHINA: Speaking in China, Tanzania’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Dr Devotha Mandanda, has highlighted the growing opportunities for cooperation between China and Africa in the maritime sector, citing green shipping, port development, and trade facilitation as key areas of collaboration.

This book contains three Conventions relating to the maritime and fishing sectors and several documents relevant to their implementation: the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006); the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention (Revised), 2003, as amended (No. 185); and the Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188).
