Port tariff strategy up for review
Ports Regulator of South Africa calls for comments
SOUTH AFRICA: The Ports Regulator of South Africa is calling for comments on its update of the 2015 and 2020 Tariff Strategy documents that attempts to reflect the tariff trajectory set for the ports system over the next ten years and provide a clear indication of how port tariffs may be adjusted.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF COMMENTS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO THE 30 JUNE 2024
The initial strategy that was published in 2015 aimed to create a tariff structure in the ports system that was reasonable, fair, transparent, efficient, and effective. The March 2020 review of the strategy included a number of enhancements.
Given the progress on the implementation of the strategy within the 10-year review period, the new document aims to address both economic and managerial factors impacting on the port system – as well as reflect on envisaged reforms in marine charges and rental income.
Industry stakeholders are asked to submit comments by the 31 May 2024. (extended to the 30 June 2024)
After receiving stakeholder input and comments, the Regulator will undertake a public consultation workshops with port users, stakeholders, and interested parties.
