Shipping line upgrades service for season

SOUTH AFRICA: Hapag-Lloyd has announced an upgrade to service the country’s citrus exporters starting at the end of May this year and running through September.

The Citrus Loader offers weekly departures from Durban and the Eastern Cape during the peak citrus season and will connect with the Hapag-Terminal in Tangier for onward shipping to destinations in North Europe, the Mediterranean and the East Coast of the United States and Canada.

In addition, the company has pre-positioned more than 2,000 new reefers for the service which will also offer an average of 800 reefer plugs per sailing.

Remote reefer monitoring is also included in the service to ensure cold chain transparency and cold treatment that complies with governmental regulations.

The Citrus Loader will be an extension of one of Hapag-Lloyd’s  West Africa services to support the South African fresh produce industry.
