Promoting the offshore oil in South Africa

APPOINTMENT: Spokesperson for OPASA

SOUTH AFRICA: Boasting an extensive history in the offshore oil sector, Niall Kramer has been appointed as the National Spokesperson for the Offshore Petroleum Association of South Africa (OPASA).

“The job is to shift the conversation towards one that is more constructive, evidence-based, and transparent, so we can make better sense of our economic opportunities, community and environmental issues, and energy transition,” writes Kramer in a LinkedIn post announcing the news.

Kramer is no stranger to trying to shift the narrative in the space having promoted the upstream and midstream service sectors of the oil and gas value chain as the CEO of the South African Oil and Gas Alliance for four years from 2016 to 2020.

With a background in marketing for oil majors, he is no stranger to engaging with media in an advocacy role and is outspoken on the need to approach opportunities in a pragmatic way.

The Offshore Petroleum Association of South Africa (known as OPASA) was officially launched in 2019 when the Department of Minerals and Energy, and others interested in the upstream industry of South Africa, joined with companies involved in the offshore exploration and production of hydrocarbons to announce this organisation.

OPASA provides a forum for formal and informal discussion and information exchange, practical co-operation, and joint liaison with the State on specific issues. A prime objective is to co-operate with the State and all stakeholders in promoting health, safety, and sound environmental practices.
