Port performance roadshow returns to calendar
SOUTH AFRICA: The 11th Annual Port Performance Roadshow for the South African Port system is scheduled for May to provide port users with the opportunity to engage on issues impacting the country’s eight commercial ports falling under the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA).
The Port of Saldanha Bay will kick off the consultations on 8 May with engagements stretching through most of the month to end in the Port of Mossel Bay on the 28th May.
Each session will include updates from the relevant port and allow participants to voice their concerns and challenges that they may be facing.
“This consultation process enables all port users across the Port system to further comment on Port Plans, prior to the TNPA tabling these at the respective PCC meetings and ahead of the 1st August,” says Selma Schwartz, Industry Development | Senior Manager: Industry Development and PCC & NPCC at the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).
Schwartz adds that all comments received prior to and during these sessions will be submitted to the TNPA. Parallel to this, all comments will be registered at the Special PCC Sitting of the 4th Quarter 2025/2026 PCC meetings to consider the CAPEX implications for the South African Port System.
The roadshow sessions will include updates on the port development framework for each individual port as well as the port capital programme reflecting 2024 to 2026 plans.
Port performance, economic activity and volume projections will also be shared, as well as updates on the oversight regime undertaken by TNPA.
Planned dredging maintenance, marine operations and resource utilisation will also be included in the discussions.
The Ports Regulator of South Africa will also participate in the sessions, bringing more clarity to the economic regulatory process that begins in August this year.
