New association to speak on behalf of bunkering sector

Bunkering Industry Association of South Africa established

SOUTH AFRICA: Prompted by the latest gazetting of proposed regulations aimed at the offshore bunkering industry, stakeholders have joined forces to establish the Bunkering Industry Association of South Africa (BIASA) which will represent and advocate for the interests of the sector.

The development will be seen as a welcome development after almost two years of uncertainty has plagued the offshore bunkering space. In addition, port bunkering volumes have a long history of challenges that have impacted South Africa’s position as a reliable destination for bunkering.

The first formal act of BIASA will be to respond to the draft Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) regulations for offshore bunkering. According to information from the sector, the association will engage legal assistance to draft a “comprehensive and robust response”.

The interim committee includes:

● Vanessa Naidoo – Olympus Admin Solutions (Chair)
● Clare Gomes -African Marine Solutions – AMSOL
● Thuso Mhlambi – Linsen Nambi Bunker Services
● Pravania Singh – Africa Bunkering Solutions
● Basil Du Plessis – Engen Oil.
