Training programme empowers port managers

Leadership training initiative

GHANA: A six-week training programme, which wrapped up at the start of November, saw 35 port managers receive certificates acknowledging their successful completion of a leadership training initiative aimed to empower managers and emerging leaders with essential skills.

This programme, covering emotional intelligence, safety leadership, resilience, time management, delegation, office dynamics, and sustainability planning, aims to elevate management practices across Meridian Port Services (MPS).

By early 2025, a Results and Sustainability Plan will be crafted to assess outcomes and identify areas for future training.

Gideon Amenuveve, a QHSSE Coordinator, highlighted how the training refined his approach to team cohesion, situational awareness, and psychological safety. Emmanuel Norman, Revenue Controller, noted gains in time management, resilience, and delegation, which have significantly enhanced his productivity.

Commitment to Continuous Development

“Our aim is to continuously upskill our workforce, equipping them to compete globally,” stated Julia Acquah, MPS Human Resource Manager. MPS hosts nearly weekly training sessions, reinforcing a culture of professional growth that aligns with the company’s mission and operational success.

MPS CEO, Mohamed Samara, affirmed that investing in employee development is central to the company’s long-term sustainability and performance. “We depend on both advanced technology and skilled professionals to deliver exceptional value to our customers and stakeholders. By building a skilled workforce, we position MPS for sustained excellence.”

Since January 2024, MPS has conducted 24 training sessions, reaching 278 employees and covering leadership, industry knowledge, compliance, safety, and job-specific skills. This initiative reflects MPS’s strategic focus on enhancing both individual and organisational performance.
