Plethora of activities at this weekend’s boat show

A full programme of water activities awaits visitors

SOUTH AFRICA: With boat races, knot tying and luxury yacht cruises on the programme at this year’s boat show in Cape Town this weekend, visitors will have ample opportunity to engage with services, equipment and boats that aim to spark their interest in adopting an ocean lifestyle.

Pedal boating will also debut at this year’s boatica as Pedal Boat Cape Town, which launched just a month ago, bring their 12 boats down to the water.

Then there are demonstrations, including one from Viking Lifesaving on lifejackets and another from the students of Virtual Yacht Assistant who will demonstrate onboard skills such as tying different line knots, polishing stainless steel, napkin and towel folding techniques, and more! They will also share valuable insights into starting a yachting-career, challenges involved, various roles onboard, safety at sea, and tips for success!

A full marquee will allow boating enthusiasts to browse the latest equipment for their vessels including outboard motors, communication instrumentation and battery power. Visitors can also engage with important organisations such as the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) who will both be on hand to answer questions about the work that they do.

Then, of course, the highlight of the show is always the luxurious yachts that tie up for the duration of the show and allow visitors to dream of a magic ocean holiday as they tour the decks.

Celebrating its 21st anniversary last year, boatica Cape Town, drew over 3,000 people from ten countries to the V&A Waterfront between Friday and Sunday to attend the show, presented by Messe Frankfurt.
