Initiating the implementation of a Maritime Single Window

CABO VERDE: The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) initiated a needs assessment in Cabo Verde to support the future implementation of a Maritime Single Window (MSW) system in the Port of Mindelo.

The needs assessment mission was carried out by IMO consultants in close collaboration with the Maritime and Port Institute of Cabo Verde (IMP), the Port Administration, relevant Ministries and Public Agencies including customs and border agencies, Port Health Service, the Border Police and Immigration Service, as well as private-sector stakeholders such as shipping lines, agents, and terminal operators.

Maritime and Port Administrations reviewed the findings and began discussions on the next steps forward.

Roadmap for implementation

A comprehensive mission report will be produced outlining a roadmap to support the design and deployment of the MSW in the port of Mindelo. The report will present key findings, analytical insights and practical recommendations, aligned with IMO principles and guidance, as well as the development of supporting digital tools.

The report will support stakeholder mapping and provide recommendations on governance, coordination and capacity-building to facilitate the effective implementation of the MSW.
