Large-scale seismic survey project launched

Delivering data intelligence

MAURITANIA: The Mauritania MegaSurvey comprising over 100,000 km2 of modern seismic data was launched yesterday by TGS as a large-scale multi-client 3D seismic project designed to support exploration across offshore Mauritania and the wider West African Atlantic Margin.

The Mauritania MegaSurvey is strategically positioned to extend and integrate with TGS’ existing offshore Mauritania multi-client library. This survey will generate one seamless volume across the offshore of Mauritania allowing regional interpretation of the full source to sink from nearshore to the ultradeep.

The MegaSurvey provides operators with regional-scale seismic continuity across multiple exploration plays, supporting robust basin screening, prospect maturation, and informed portfolio decision-making. By delivering a harmonised 3D seismic dataset over a large contiguous area, the survey enables more confident geological interpretation, improved understanding of structural and stratigraphic frameworks, and reduced exploration uncertainty.

Access to this data allows companies to allocate exploration capital more efficiently by de-risking acreage evaluation prior to committing drilling or licensing decisions.

Through close collaboration with the Mauritanian Ministry, TGS is contributing to the promotion of the country’s offshore potential by establishing a modern, accessible subsurface data foundation. This regional dataset supports transparent licensing processes and provides international operators with the technical confidence needed to assess investment opportunities offshore Mauritania.

David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President of Multi-Client at TGS, commented, “The Mauritania MegaSurvey delivers strategic regional value for our customers. By integrating with broader West African subsurface frameworks, the survey provides deeper insight into basin architecture and petroleum systems along the Atlantic Margin. This regional perspective enables operators to assess Mauritania in the context of neighbouring proven and emerging basins, supporting play fairway analysis and a more robust understanding of cross-border geological trends.”

The Mauritania MegaSurvey further strengthens TGS’ multi-client leadership offshore West Africa and complements the company’s extensive portfolio of 2D seismic, 3D seismic, and well data across the region.
