SOUTH AFRICA: Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane’s diplomatic mission continued this week as he landed in Greece where he aims to establish the province as a credible and competitive destination for maritime investment.

The Tanzania Shipping Agency Corporation (TASAC) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will facilitate the preparation and implementation of the Census of Water Transport Vessels, Shipbuilding Areas and Shipbuilders in Mainland Tanzania for the year 2026/27.

SOUTH AFRICA: After announcing the partnership to establish an annual list of Top South African Women in Maritime last month, the process to identify candidates in now formally underway.

After announcing recently that the 2010 HNS Convention was moving towards  meeting the requirements to trigger its entry into force, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has confirmed that this milestone has been met and that the International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea will officially enter into force on 29 November 2027.

SOUTH AFRICA: Since the establishment of a formal community fishing forum some three years ago, the fishing communities along the South Coast of South Africa have reported an improved ability to voice their concerns and actively participate in decision-making processes that affect their livelihoods.

TANZANIA: A week-long inspection mission undertaken by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) on Tanzania's Maritime Education, Training and Certification System will provide important feedback that will include key recommendations to strengthen the country’s maritime training capacity.
