Cargo planners urged to take note of new overstay system

Shipping line confirms overstay process for South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA: Hapag Lloyd has confirmed that as from 1 July, the overstay process for cargo arriving in South Africa changed to offer two free storage days when releasing goods from the overstay depot.

The shipping line urged cargo owners to take note of the timelines associated with their Pick Up Instruction submission that includes the requirement to submit instructions at least two working days before the vessels scheduled arrival to avoid containers being placed in an overstay depot by default.

Despite the overstay service being optional, all containers not collected from the terminal within two days will automatically be moved to the overstay depot and storage fees will be billed.
