AMSOL Ghana officially renames bunker tanker
GHANA: The official renaming of the Densu River took place in the Port of Tema today as a gesture of commitment by owners, AMSOL to the local maritime industry where the tanker delivers marine fuel on behalf of the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL).
The naming ceremony was attended by key stakeholders including Kwame Osei-Prempeh (Group CEO of GOIL), Grace Jeanet Mason (South African High Commissioner to Ghana), Sandra Opoku (Tema Port Director) and Brent Nartey (MD of Engen), amongst many other dignitaries.
"By naming the vessel Densu River, we not only embrace its local identity but also its promising future in Ghanaian waters," noted Kojo Quainoo, CEO of AMSOL Ghana, who highlighted this as a significant milestone in the company’s history.
AMSOL’s decision to undertake the vessel’s recent drydocking in Tema is a further testimony to their commitment to support the local maritime service providers. According to a statement from AMSOL, the local drydocking and naming forms part of a strategic process to not only strengthen AMSOL’s presence in Ghana, but to also help develop the maritime value chain.
The Densu River basin, after which the tanker was named, covers over 2400 square kilometres and serves cities and communities within the Greater Accra Region, Eastern Region and the Central Region of Ghana. The river is not only an essential source of water but also holds cultural and historical importance.
With a majority Ghanian crew, the Densu River has helped solidify the relations between AMSOL Ghana and GOIL. Speaking at the naming ceremony, Chairman of GOIL, Kwame Osei-Prempeh emphasised how the bunker tanker helped improve their service delivery to international companies and clients in the fishing industry.
