The 5th Annual Southern Africa Oil and Gas Conference is a partnership between the Petroleum Agency SA (PASA) , the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) and the South African Oil & Gas Alliance (SAOGA) under the theme: "Oil and Gas without Borders: Unlocking Southern Africa's Shared Future".

The Annual Southern Africa Oil and Gas Conference is a partnership between the Petroleum Agency SA (PASA) , the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) and the South African Oil & Gas Alliance (SAOGA). The Conference will focus on promoting the upstream oil & gas activities in the SADC region by providing a platform for a dialogue about the potential socio-economic benefits of developing the oil and gas resources in the SADC region.

The conference will be attended by government officials, the public, local and regional delegates from companies and SMMEs especially those owned by historically disadvantaged people who wish to establish and grow a presence in the upstream oil & gas industry. 

The conference will be a platform for dialogue on how the development of oil and gas resources in the region can be sustainably developed and the potential for these resources to contribute to resolving the electricity supply crisis and energy supply shortages in the region.

Conference Objectives

  • Identify strategies to accelerate development of existing discoveries and further exploration of oil and gas resources which is critical for the SADC region’s energy security and socio-economic development.
  • Advance pragmatic views about the “just energy transition” in the context of the Southern African upstream petroleum industry.
  • Discuss the role of indigenous gas in the gas to power program, transport, and other industrial use in support of energy security and sustainable development.
  • Discuss how the upstream petroleum industry can play a role in facilitating a "people-centred energy transition" through skills development and capacity building.
  • Understand how the legislative / regulatory framework safeguards the impact to the environment while enabling sustainable development of the Southern Africa upstream petroleum industry.
