Application to undertake offshore survey for comment

Public comment invited environmental authorisation

SOUTH AFRICA: The public has until 14 August to submit comments on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Report and its Non-Technical Summary (NTS) undertaken on behalf of Main Street (Pty) Ltd who are seeking to conduct an offshore survey campaign.

The campaign is planned to survey potential production sites and pipeline routes from the deep-water field areas in Block 11B/12B onto the shelf and into the adjacent Block 9. The findings of this survey will provide essential data that informs the design and layout of the subsea production facilities and associated infrastructure.

The area of interest (AOI) is >65 km offshore in water depths between 100 m and 2 200 m. The proposed surveys include bathymetry, sonar, seafloor sampling, metocean and ROV surveys in a maximum survey area of interest measuring 8 620 km2 within portions of Blocks 11B/12B and 9.

Main Street held Exploration Right 12/3/067 over Block 11B/12B, located off the South Coast of South Africa, roughly between Mossel Bay and Cape St Francis.

Following the discovery of gas-condensate at the Brulpadda and Luiperd wells within Block 11B/12B, the joint venture partners at the time, under the lead of TotalEnergies EP South Africa (TEEPSA), started the associated ESIA process, which included a public participation process conducted in 2022 and 2023.

Following the withdrawal of some joint venture partners in late 2024, Main Street remains as the sole applicant of the current EA Application and has appointed SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) to manage the environmental authorisation processes.

All stakeholders are also invited to attend the public open days which will aim to provide an overview of the project proposal and findings of the ESIA process.
