Basic diving course boosts navy capacity

Diving training completed for naval officers

KENYA: A cohort of Kenyan naval officers recently completed a 24-week intensive training course designed to equip them with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for clearance diving operations that are critical for Kenya’s safety and security.

Commander Kenya Navy Fleet (KNF), Brigadier Mohammed Shemote, officiated over the closing ceremony of Basic Divers Course 03/25 at the Kenya Navy Base, Mtongwe in Mombasa recently.

The course is seen as a vital part of the Kenya Navy’s efforts to enhance maritime security and boost its operational capabilities through training.

In his address during the ceremony, Brigadier Shemote praised the graduates for their remarkable determination, resilience and commitment in completing the challenging course.

“I sincerely congratulate you on this important achievement in your careers. Your hard work, dedication, and pursuit of excellence have brought you to this proud moment,” he said.

He reminded the divers to be cognisant of their role within the Kenya Navy and encouraged them to be role models.

“You represent the strength and resilience of the Kenya Navy. Your conduct and actions will serve as a source of inspiration and a benchmark for others,” Brigadier Shemote added.

Colonel Eliud Keter, Commandant of the Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC), emphasised the essential contribution of divers to operational success and the protection of Kenya’s territorial waters. He urged the graduates to fully embrace the responsibilities that come with their training.

The event featured a diving demonstration, symbolising the successful completion of the course.
