Taking advantage of the blue economy

SOUTH AFRICA: Kgomotso Selokane, CEO of Heron Marine, kicked off the maritime session of the Southern African Transport Conference in Pretoria today by questioning the country’s ability to take advantage of its position in the maritime domain.

With a number of advantages including a unique geographical location on major shipping lines; an extraordinary long coastline as well as the confluence of two currents, she asked delegates to question why more opportunities are not being extracted to benefit the economy.

Highlighting the success of Togo and Singapore in the maritime space, she challenged stakeholders to create a united front to promote an realise the significant impact of developing a maritime strategy.
