CÔTE D’IVOIRE: A second meeting to review the roadmap for the transfer of YARIS to the YAOUNDE architecture as well as to discuss the continued funding of the system as funding of the GoGIN II ends drew input from regional maritime experts last week.
Initiated under the second phase of the GoGIN project, the Yaoundé Architecture Regional Information System (YARIS) is a secure digital monitoring tool that allows members to communicate and share data securely.
GoGIN’s main objective is to contribute to improving safety and maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea through the development and deployment of the YARIS platform which support exchange of maritime information and coordination at national, regional and inter-regional levels in case of maritime incidents in the Gulf of Guinea.
This second technical meeting on the transfer of the Yaoundé Regional Architecture Information System (YARIS) to the ‘Yaoundé Architecture’ maritime information management system aimed to identify sustainable funding after the end of the GoGIN II project.
The Yaoundé architecture gathers 19 countries and three regional organisations. It includes an Inter Regional Coordination Centre and two Regional Maritime Security Centre, one for West Africa in Abidjan, the CRESMAO, and the other for Central Africa, based in Pointe Noire, the CRESMAC.
The meeting was attended by maritime experts from the countries of the Gulf of Guinea, representatives of regional and international institutions, representatives of the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centres (MMCCs), the Regional Maritime Safety Centre for West Africa (CRESMAO), the Regional Maritime Safety Centre for Central Africa (CRESMAC) and development partners, including the European Union and implementation partner Expertise France.
The Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Côte d’Ivoire, Martina Borovac Pe-Carevic, representing Francesca Di Mauro, EU Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, expressed the European Union’s willingness to continue working with its partners to support solutions that will enable regional ownership of maritime safety solutions such as YARIS, which links more than 160 maritime centres in 19 countries.
