WMU explores partnerships with Tanzania
The World Maritime University has expressed its interest in strengthening strategic collaboration with Tanzania in maritime education, professional development, research and knowledge exchange.
TANZANIA: Visiting the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) Headquarters in Dar es Salaam last week, Anna Karlqvist, Assistant to the Vice-President for Strategic Initiatives and ERASMUS Coordinator at World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö engaged with TASAC leadership on potential areas of cooperation.
On behalf of the TASAC Director General, Karlqvist was received by Said Kaheneko, Acting Director of Maritime Safety, Security and Environment. The session was also attended by TASAC staff members who are alumni of the World Maritime University.
The visit provided a platform to explore potential areas of cooperation between WMU and Tanzania's maritime institutions. Discussions focused on student and staff exchange programs, joint capacity-building initiatives, collaborative research and the sharing of maritime knowledge, expertise and international best practices.
During the visit Karlqvist was briefed on the development of Tanzania's maritime sector, TASAC's regulatory mandate and the Government's ongoing efforts to enhance maritime safety and security, protect the marine environment and promote safe and sustainable shipping.
The proposed collaboration is expected to support the development of highly competent maritime professionals, strengthen institutional capacity and enhance Tanzania's participation in international maritime education and research. It will also contribute to the country's broader aspirations for sustainable maritime development and the growth of the blue economy.
TASAC welcomed WMU's interest in establishing strategic collaboration with Tanzania and reaffirmed its commitment to partnerships that advance professional competence, research, innovation and sustainable development within the maritime sector.
