Fifth revised edition, 2026

This book contains three Conventions relating to the maritime and fishing sectors and several documents relevant to their implementation: the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006); the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention (Revised), 2003, as amended (No. 185); and the Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188).

The Compendium is an essential reference source including the key instruments adopted by the ILO to promote decent work for seafarers and fishers.

These instruments are among the International Labour Organization’s most innovative and significant international labour Conventions. Their crucial importance has been highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the context of conflicts and wars.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 the compendium has been updated in 2026, along with the revised Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to reflect recent developments, including the latest amendments to the MLC, 2006.
