AMSOL renames latest vessel

SOUTH AFRICA: AMSOL gathered guests and dignitaries in the Port of Ngqura this week to celebrate the renaming of its tanker Ilitha, highlighting the company’s continued commitment to employing and developing South African seafarers and ensuring a robust talent pipeline.

Held against the backdrop of the inaugural Bunker South Africa conference, the renaming is testimony to ongoing investment by the company, who have secured more than R600 million in new assets over the last six years.

The tanker, now South African-flagged, brings AMSOL’s fleet to 16 locally registered vessels, and will join the company’s operations to deliver bunkers to ships in the important offshore bunkering sector in Algoa Bay.

Pamela Yoyo, Port Manager for the Nelson Mandela Bay Ports, undertook the role of Lady Sponsor to the vessel as she bestowed the official blessing on the Master and officers in a ceremony to unveil the new name which means ray of light in Xhosa.

With this latest addition to their fleet, AMSOL aims to position itself as leading contributor to the growth of the maritime sector whilst positively impacting job creation and the employment of marine professionals.
