Gala returns to calendar for second year

South African Shipping Gala scheduled for November

SOUTH AFRICA: After a sell-out inaugural event in 2024, the highly-anticipated South African Shipping Gala returns to the maritime calendar this year on November 28.

Making its debut in 2024, the event brought together over 500 industry professionals for an evening of networking, collaboration and celebration, and included the induction of Captain Sarno and Prasheen Maharaj as the first two inductees into the Shipping Hall of Fame.

This year will see three more worthy inductees honoured. Peter Besnard, CEO of the South African Association of Shipowners and Agents (SAASOA); Xolani Mbambo, CEO of Grindrod Ltd and Captain Brendon Hawley, Chartered Master Mariner will all receive the honour as nominated by the event’s committee.

This year’s event will also once again raise money for the South African Police Charity, with proceedings going towards the Police Education Trust which supports the educational needs of the children who parents died in the line of duty.

Underlying the success of the previous event, this year’s gala has attracted the support of Grindrod Ltd, Sandcok Austral, Linsen Nambi, Maersk, AMSOL and MSC.

Tickets are already on sale and opportunities to sponsor the event are still available.
