MoU to promote port developments
Towards developing a green port
SEYCHELLES: Following a two-day visit to the Seychelles Ports Authority, the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at assisting the authority in developing Port Victoria into a leading green port in the region.
The collaboration will focus on several key areas including strategic guidance, knowledge sharing, capacity building and the exploration of pilot project initiatives
The MoU was signed by Sony Payet of SPA and Dr Mikael Lind of RISE during his working visit to Seychelles.
Present at the signing ceremony were outgoing Ambassador for Sweden to Seychelles, Caroline Vicini, Honorary Consul of Sweden to Seychelles Chrystold Chetty, Principal Secretary for Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine David Bianchi, Deputy CEO of SPA, the Harbour Master, Special Advisor to the CEO, management staff of SPA and staff from the Ministry of Transport.
During his visit, Dr Lind facilitated a seminar on sustainability in port operations and shared insights from Sweden’s leading research institutes, sparking meaningful dialogue around collaborative solutions for future sustainable port development.
During the inaugural United Nations Global Supply Chain Forum in 2024, Dr Mikael Lind engaged with the Seychelles Minister for Transport, Antony Derjacques who expressed significant interest in Sweden’s pioneering work.
Subsequently, SPA has been in discussions with RISE to explore the adaptation of similar approaches to enhance the sustainability capabilities of the Port of Victoria, particularly in the context of the ongoing port restoration project.
