Leading the charge for the South African seafarer

Tracey Shearer joins the Maritime Industry Dialogue

SOUTH AFRICA: This month’s Maritime Industry Dialogue session focusing on the opportunities and challenges that face the South African seafarer will include insights from Tracey Shearer, founder and Director of EQ8 Recruit.

After a background in advertising, Shearer changed track in 2006 while living in Southampton in the UK when she joined Faststream as a recruitment consultant in the shipping and maritime industry. After learning the ropes, she relocated to Singapore to set up an office for the company in one of the global maritime centres.

After another reboot in 2011 when she founded the Red Consultancy to specialise in the shipping and seafarer manning industries, Shearer took yet another road and returned to South Africa in 2017.

With this substantial background in the shipping and manning sectors, and the consummate entrepreneur, Shearer launched EQ8 Recruit, a specialised global recruiter for the shipping and maritime industries, Cape Town in 2019.

Join our Maritime Industry Dialogue on 30 March to get insights from Shearer as she updates us on the progress she has made in developing relationships that will benefit South African seafarers including breaking news for cadets who are seeking berths through the launch of EQ8 Crew this year.

Recognising a need for private enterprise in South Africa and launched EQ8 Crew in early 2023 with two Norwegian shareholders who have decades worth of international experience in the shipping and crewing industries, whether that is sailing-experience on almost anything that floats or building and developing solid, strong networks and recruitment consultancy skills.

“We are committed in offering the very best of ourselves to support talented seafarers and the shipping industry as a whole to reap rewards from each other. EQ8 Crew aims to develop an open relationship between sea recruits and ship owners and managers that will become an integral part of sea personnel,” she says.
