Four companies vie for ship management contract

Second tender attracts more interest

SOUTH AFRICA: Four companies have submitted bids after the vessel management tender for the SA Agulhas II and Algoa was reissued in April this year to exclude the mandatory requirement that bidders be members of the South African Association of Ship Owners and Agents (SAASOA).

The management of DFFE’s fleet of vessels is currently split between SAMSA Special Projects and African Marine Solutions (AMSOL). Both companies responded to the 2023 tender, but the reissuing of the tender has attracted bids from another two companies.

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has received bids from Grindrod Logistics Africa, C Steinweg Marine, SAMSA and AMSOL with only one bid coming in under R1 billion.

Grindrod’s bid at R98,771,669 is substantially lower than the other bids with C Steinweg Marine representing the highest price tag at R1 525 093 493,00.

Bidders were required to provide inclusive costs and expenses per vessel that included a management fee, crew costs, operational costs for five years.
