The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will hold an emergency Council session next week to address the growing threat to vessels and seafarers in one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints.

The 2012 Cape Town Agreement has met the requirements for entry into force and will enter into force in February 2027, closing a longstanding gap in the global maritime safety framework.  

For the first time, the International Maritime Organisation has set a two-year theme for its World Maritime Day that aims to see the global shipping industry turn decades of international regulation into tangible, operational reality.
