Stakeholder engagement on new regulations

The workshops will be held in Cape Town (13 November), Gqeberha (19 November) and Durban (27 November). Public comments on the new regulations close on 20 December.

The new regulations on the agenda include:

  • Draft Marine Pollution (BCH Code) Regulations, 2024
  • Draft Merchant Shipping (Seafarer Insurance and Labour Related Matters) Regulations 2024
  • Draft Merchant Shipping (IGC Code) Regulations, 2024
  • Life-Saving Appliances Regulations, 2024
  • Draft Merchant Shipping/Marine Pollution (IBC Code) Regulations, 2024

On 5 September 2025, the Minister of Transport published for comments the draft Merchant Shipping (National Small Vessel Safety) Regulations, 2025 as indicated in the Schedule. Interested persons are invited to submit written comments on this draft Merchant Shipping (National Small Vessel Safety) Regulations, 2025 within 30 days from the date of publication of this notice in the Government Gazette.
