DATE: 20 July 2026
VENUE:  Virtual

National Science Month, an expansion of National Science Week, gives individuals and institutions a focused opportunity to interest South Africans in science, technology and innovation and show how they affect our lives.

This webinar is presented by the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, the National Research Fund and the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement.

Spearker: Mark Dixon

Mark, a qualified marine biologist, has worked in environmental positions globally as a CCAMLR Scientific Observer in the Ross Sea, Antarctica. He founded the Strandloper Project, a citizen science volunteer non-profit organisation which researches ghost fishing, ocean plastic waste and marine fauna in the Garden Route. Each year he leads a coastal research expedition, hiking along the shoreline to document ocean plastic pollution, washed out fishing debris and marine wildlife.
