Traffic flow restored as bulk carrier refloated

Bulk carrier refloated to clear canal

EGYPT: The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has confirmed the successful refloating of the bulk carrier, Xin Tain Yuan after it grounded due to a technical failure sustained by its rudder during its transit through the Canal amongst vessels of the northern convoy on route from Denmark to Singapore.

Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, announced the success of the SCA's maritime salvage tugboats in handling the navigational emergency and refloating the bulk carrier and confirmed that vessel traffic was flowing normally.

After receiving notification that the 225m vessel had grounded at the 87 km marking, four tugboats were deployed to carry resolve the situation.

Rabiee confirmed that the SCA tugboats successfully handled the emergency within four hours. As a part of the navigational safety procedures, they escorted it to the Great Bitter Lakes after its crew succeeded in fixing the technical failure.

The response included the first deployment of one of SCA’s newest tugboats, the Azm 2, which has a bollard pull of 90 tons.
