Distinguished Kenyan recognised for lifetime achievements

Rewarding commitment to blue economy

Kenya’s Nancy Karigithu was recognised for her distinguished career representing her tireless commitment to seafarers as well as her representation of her country at the International Maritime Organisation and her role in developing cooperation programmes across Africa at an awards ceremony in London this week.

The Seahorse Freight Association (SFA) held its annual Awards bringing together stakeholders from across the transport, freight, and logistics sectors.

This year’s Seahorse Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Karigithu, Advisor for the Blue Economy at the Executive Office of the President of Kenya and Maritime and Blue Economy Special Envoy. Having campaigned for the position of Secretary General of the IMO in the last election, Karigithu is well-known in the international maritime domain as a committed approach to promote the sustainable development and management of Kenya’s marine resources.

With close to four decades of experience in the maritime industry, she also holds a Master of Laws in International Maritime Law, Carriage of Goods by Sea, Marine Insurance, Public International Law and Law of the Sea and others. She is also a board member of the World Maritime University, a published author and sought-after speaker.

The recognition in London this week shows that she is living up to her public mission to “harness the potential of the blue economy for Kenya's socio-economic transformation and environmental conservation.”
