APPOINTMENT: DG of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute

KENYA: Dr Paul Orina has officially assumed office as the Director-General of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute succeeding Dr James Mwaluma, who has been serving in an acting capacity.

Stepping into the role, Orino pledged an open-door policy and an intention to foster a spirit of teamwork while promoting a strong synergy with partners and like-minded organisations.

His leadership in driving transformative and impactful projects, commitment to development research, and dedication will be essential in advancing science, fostering innovation, and promoting the sustainable use of Kenya’s aquatic resources.

Dr Orina is expected to elevate the institute to worldwide recognition through his vision of strengthening scientific research, fostering innovation, expanding existing collaborations, and building new ones, while empowering communities and ensuring the resilience of our aquatic ecosystems.

During the handover ceremony, he applauded Dr. Mwaluma for his exemplary stewardship and committed to mobilizing resources to strengthen research, enhance innovation, and firmly position KMFRI on the global stage.
