The Martey Korley was transferred from Tema by road to Akosombo where she was launched and sailed to Kpando Tokor.

The deployment, the first of its kind, the Director-General of the GMA, Dr Kamal-Deen Ali said is a key part of a broader strategy to improve safety and strategically position the Authority to support the vision the 24 hour economy.

With a capacity to rescue up to 150 people, the presence of the Matey Koley at Kpando Torkor, Dr Ali said will provide a vital safety net for the many communities and travellers who rely on the Volta Lake for transport and livelihood.

According to reports in Ghana media, the deployment of the vessel will help to respond to frequent incidents in the area.
