REGIONAL OCEAN GOVERNANCE THROUGH OCEAN ACCOUNTS

Ocean accounting is seen as a powerful tool to support implementation of the Regional Ocean Governance Strategy. The webinar is organised by the Nairobi Convention Secretariat in collaboration with the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP), University of New South Wales (UNSW) Centre for Sustainable Development Reform (CSDR), and IOC-UNESCO through the GOAP Africa Community of Practice (ACoP).

The WIO Regional Ocean Governance Strategy was adopted during the 11th COP of the Nairobi Convention (Decision CP11/6) . To support implementation of the Strategy, the Contracting parties requested the Secretariat to collaborate with partners to support the development of tools and methodologies on ocean accounting and natural capital accounting with the purpose of increasing knowledge, capacity development and harmonizing and use of these tools in tracking implementation of sustainable blue economy and ocean governance (Decision CP11/14).  The webinar will raise awareness on ocean accounts and how they can support the ROGS and the regional science to policy process as well as identify priorities and ways forward in implementing accounts to support the ROGS and national development priorities. The concept note and agenda for the webinar are shared for your reference.
