Ocean documentary scoops Oscar
South African Netflix original documentary, "My Octopus Teacher", wins Oscar
SOUTH AFRICA: The South African documentary that follows the rather unusual relationship between a filmmaker, Craig Foster, and an octopus, My Octopus Teacher, has won an Oscar for The Best Documentary film.
“This is an important milestone, as it will encourage further investments, skills transfer and collaboration in South Africa's film industry,” Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, noted in a tweet on the social media platform.
Released in 2020, the documentary was directed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed and is about Foster’s encounters in a kelp forest with an octopus over the course of nearly a year.
